Phi Theta Kappa

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society was founded in 1918, and since 1924, has been continuously named the official honor society for all community colleges in the U.S. by the American Association of Community Colleges. In addition to 1,200 chapters in the U.S., Phi Theta Kappa has an additional 100 chapters internationally, with over 2 million members. Phi Theta Kappa offers transfer enhancements and scholarships with over 700 colleges. In recent years, over 30 million dollars in scholarships have been awarded annually to members. Phi Theta Kappa's four hallmarks are Leadership, Service, Fellowship, and Scholarship. Mesa students participate in this society by organizing and leading events on campus that benefit their fellow students, doing community service, hanging out and enjoying fun trips, and by studying together and celebrating the academic success of their peers. Students also participate in the Honors in Action group research project, and attend regional leadership training events. Invitation to join the society is provided by the local chapter, and a membership application, along with verification of GPA, must be submitted to receive the invitation.

Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher for community college coursework completed in the last five years, with a minimum of 12 units completed at Mesa, will be given an invitation to become a full-fledged lifetime member of the society, and receive the Phi Theta Kappa member designation on their transcripts.
