Pay close attention to the following dates & deadlines to ensure the prompt processing of your financial aid applications and disbursements.

2024/2025 IMPORTANT DEADLINE DATES

Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025

FAFSA

2024/2025 FAFSA final deadline date: June 30, 2025

The Department of Education opened the filing window for the 2024/2025 FAFSA as of December 31, 2023, to give students and families a chance to apply as early as possible.

 

2024/2025 FINANCIAL AID CENSUS DAY
  • Fall 2024 Semester:September 4, 2024
  • Spring 2025 Semester: February 19, 2025
  • SUMMER 2025: July 2, 2025 subject to change

 

2024/2025 APPEAL FORMS

Appeals are time-sensitive. They must be received by the Financial Aid office at San Diego Mesa College by noon on the student's last day of classes or by noon on the following dates, whichever comes first:

  • Fall 2024 Semester Appeal Submission Window: 8/05/24 thru 11/29/24  [observed: by Noon Monday December 2, 2024]
  • Spring 2025 Semester Appeal Submission Window: 11/12/24 thru 5/16/2025 
  • Summer 2025 Session Appeal Submission Window: 5/13/25 thru 7/25/2025 [observed: by Noon Monday July 28, 2025]

The law does not permit the FAO to process any requests submitted for a prior term or after your classes end for the term for which you submit your request. 

Completed appeal forms (including all documentation) are due no later than noon on the end date posted above or your last day of classes for the semester - whichever comes first. Incomplete appeal forms will not be considered. Please note: If you are appealing only for Loan Eligibility, please see the Loan Deadlines below.

2024/2025 Unusual Circumstances -DEPENDENCY PETITIONS and HOMELESS YOUTH VERIFICATIONS

We strongly recommend that your Unusal Circumstance Dependency Petition and Review request be received complete by the Financial Aid Office (FAO) no less than 2 weeks before your last day of class for the term you are enrolled.  Must be received complete by the Financial Aid office at San Diego Mesa College before noon on the student's last day of classes.  Requests received or incomplete on your last day of class may not be reviewed. The law does not permit the FAO to process any requests submitted after your classes end for the term.

2024/2025 Special Circumstance - INCOME REDUCTION REQUEST

We strongly recommend that your Special Circumstance Income Reduction Request be received complete by the Financial Aid Office (FAO) no less than 2 weeks before your last day of class for the term you are enrolled.  Must be received complete by the Financial Aid office at San Diego Mesa College before noon on the student's last day of classes.  Requests received or incomplete on your last day of class may not be reviewed.  The law does not permit the FAO to process any requests submitted after your classes end for the term.

    As the 2024/2025 FAFSA is still working with 2022 income criteria, If you are planning to submit and Income Reduction Request prior to or during the Spring 2025 semester, 2023 & 2024 Income Tax Return Transcripts from the IRS with all W2s/1099s will be required.  
  • Summer 2025 full term ends 8/16/25. Please note: Your last day of class may be earlier than the posted end of term.   Due to the mini sessions within summer, it is strongly recommended to submit your completed signed requests with all required documents a minimum of two weeks prior to the end of class for any individual session if you are not enrolled for the full summer session, not the end of the complete summer session! The Financial Aid office must receive your complete Income Reduction request with ALL required supporting documents before Noon, the last day of the summer session in which you are in attendance.  As the 2024/2025 FAFSA is still working with 2021 income criteria, If you are planning to submit an Income Reduction Request prior to or during the Summer 2025 sessions, 2023 & 2024 Income Tax Return Transcripts from the IRS with all W2s/1099s will be required.

 

2024/2025 FEDERAL DIRECT LOANS (DIRECT SUBSIDIZED, UNSUBSIDIZED, & PLUS AND/OR ALTERNATIVES)

All steps must be complete and received by the Financial Aid office at San Diego Mesa College by Noon on the student’s last day of classes or by noon on the following dates, whichever comes first.

  • Fall 2024: 12/06/24
  • Spring 2025: 5/16/2025
  • Summer 2025: 7/23/2025[observed: by Noon Monday July 28, 2025]
    Student must be actively attending/enrolled in summer courses to submit a loan application after 6/30/2025

 

2024/2025 ALTERNATIVE LOANS

Same as Federal Direct Loan dates listed above. NOTE: Please be aware that your loan provider may publish dates or enrollment requirements that differ from the campus dates posted. The Mesa College Financial Aid office will always comply strictly with the dates and terms listed here only.  All student must file a current FAFSA for the year in which they are applying.

2024/2025 WORK STUDY PROGRAM

Must have a submitted 2024/2025 FAFSA filed on or before April 15, 2024 in order to be eligible for Priority Consideration for the Work Study Program. Participants of the Federal Work Study Program, once processed and placed and enrollment in minimum of half-time [6 units], can present time sheets for payment up to the last day of the semester.  Students should not work past the award eligibility.

  • Fall Semester Only– Students can work until 12/16/24 or their last day of attendance [whichever comes first] unless the student is continuing on in Spring.
  • Spring Semester Only– Students can work until 06/02/2025 or their last day of attendance [whichever comes first] unless the student is continuing on in Summer and/or the subsequent Fall.
  • Summer– A Student can work in June only if the student is enrolled for classes during summer session and/or planning to be enrolled for the subsequent Fall semester.   NOTE: Summer (JUNE only) work is approved on a case-by-case basis and if the Department has made specific requests to have student workers during the summer.  There is generally no Work Study in July.

    As the 2023/2024 FAFSA is still working with 2021income criteria, If you are planning to submit an Income Reduction Request prior to or during the Fall 2023 semester, both 2021 & 2022 Income Tax Return Transcripts from the IRS with all W2s/1099s will be required.
  • Spring 2024: 5/10/2024
    As the 2023/2024 FAFSA is still working with 2021 income criteria, If you are planning to submit and Income Reduction Request prior to or during the Spring 2024 semester, 2021, 2022 & 2023 Income Tax Return Transcripts from the IRS with all W2s/1099s will be required.
  • Summer 2024: 7/26/2024 [observed: by Noon Monday July 29, 2024]
    Due to the mini sessions within summer, the deadline for each session will be two weeks prior to the end of each, not the end of the complete summer session! The Financial Aid office must receive your complete Income Reduction request with ALL required supporting documents by Noon on the Thursday 2 two weeks prior to your last day of the last summer session in which you are in attendance or 7/26/2024 whichever comes first [This is also true for students in late start classes throughout the Fall and Spring Terms]. As the 2023/2024 FAFSA is still working with 2019 income criteria, If you are planning to submit an Income Reduction Request prior to or during the Summer 2024 sessions, 2021, 2022& 2023 Income Tax Return Transcripts from the IRS with all W2s/1099s will be required.
