San Diego Mesa College’s Women’s Studies program provides you with the opportunity
to pursue an interdisciplinary course of study with an emphasis on the perspectives
and experiences of women. Multicultural courses offered in the Women’s Studies curriculum
examine the divergent experiences of women through the lens of gender, race, ethnicity,
class, nationality, religion, and sexual orientation in both a historical and a modern
perspective. You will learn to identify how cultural, political, and economic hegemonies
impact the human experience through a gendered lens, and also examine the actions
of women as they seek to foster change in their society. The Women’s Studies program
will provide an opportunity for you to engage in conversations around diversity and
inclusivity needed to thrive within our multicultural world, as you work towards an
associate degree and/or prepare to transfer.
