Become a Puente Mentor

Across California, thousands of professionals have helped Puente students build a bridge to college and career success. By becoming a Puente Mentor, you too can help the next generation realize their dreams. And as a Puente mentor, you will become part of a statewide network of professionals who share your interest in education and community.

Puente Mentors

  • Provide leadership to students in individual or small-group settings.
  • Introduce students to careers and workplaces
  • Share their strategies for overcoming obstacles
  • Show by example that academic and career goals can be met
  • Serve as a resource for student regarding culture and community

I agree to:

  • Commit to mentoring a Puente student for one year (2 semesters)
  • Meet with my assigned mentee for at least 15-18 hours for one year
  • Take the lead by contacting my mentee at least once a month
  • Create academic, social and cultural or career goals with your mentee
  • Share my educational, career and professional journey
  • Motivate my mentee to pursue their dreams through higher education
  • Serve as a positive role model
  • Help my mentee complete their mentor interview assignment
  • Participate in mentor related activities such as mentor mixers or field trips
  • Respect my mentee’s own process and pace toward achieving their educational goals
