SAN DIEGO, CA – San Diego Mesa College will celebrate the grand opening of its newly developed CommUnity Spaces—student-centered support and affinity spaces designed to enhance engagement, learning, and a sense of belonging on campus—on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in Room I4-202.

San Diego Mesa College is proud to announce that Lucio Lira, Counselor Coordinator at the Pride Center, has been selected to receive the 2025 Dr. Emilie Mitchell Rainbow Excellence Award. This prestigious recognition, presented by the California Community Colleges, honors leaders who are making significant strides in creating inclusive, healing, and empowering environments for LGBTQIA+ students.

Five students at San Diego City, San Diego Mesa and San Diego Miramar colleges have been named as semifinalists for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship that provides a tuition-free pathway to a four-year degree at a college or university of their choice.

San Diego Mesa College student, Renee Smaldino, competed in the International Interior Design Association Southern California Chapter Student Design Charrette on March 11 at the HLW International Office in Santa Monica. Renee was nominated by Mesa College for a chance to win cash awards and move on to the Regional Student Charrette Competition in Arizona.

San Mateo, CA – On April 12, 2023, a Project entitled Benefits and Opportunities: California’s Community College Baccalaureate Programs, led by Hai Hoang, Acting Dean of Institutional Effectiveness at San Diego Mesa College, was awarded as a 2023 Honorable Mention Project.

UC San Diego’s vibrant research community wouldn’t be the same without the valuable contributions made by our postdoctoral researchers. Postdocs are scholars who have received their doctoral degree and are hired to help complete research and mentor current graduate students.

San Diego Mesa College Student, Wesley Renda, has found a way to change the drinking game forever. He invented a cup called, “WesCup”, that is able to hold three drinks in one cup. The drinking cup allows consumers to enjoy three flavors of their favorite drink at one time. These cups are being sold at 30 stores in San Diego and is going into 7/11 this month.
