Juan Carlos Toth is a Professor in the Multimedia and Fine Art Programs at Mesa College. Professor Toth earned his BA in Studio Arts at Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire in 1987 and his MFA in Painting, Photography, and Printmaking at San Diego State University in 2003. After moving to San Diego in 1987, Professor Toth began collaborating with the art collective Border Art Workshop/Taller de Arte Fronterizo, participating in performances, works, and exhibitions in such venues and locations as Capp Street Project and Galeria de la Raza in San Francisco; The Canyon Zapata, Tijuana/San Diego; the Dia Art Foundation, INTAR, and Hallwalls Gallery in New York; The Venice Biennale; LACE Gallery in Los Angeles; The Sydney Biennale; and the Centro Cultural de la Raza and San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego. He has received recognition from the California Arts Council, been awarded collaborative grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Ford Foundation, and was one of the first recipients of the International Artists Grants program awards sponsored by the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Foundation.
Complementing his activist and contemporary arts background, Professor Toth brings to the Fine Art & Multimedia programs at Mesa knowledge of 3D animation, game theory & development, video production, and traditional 2D digital design. In addition to his contract faculty duties at Mesa College, Professor Toth has taught in the School of Arts at the University of San Diego, the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts at San Diego State University, and the School of Art and Communication at Southwestern College, instructing classes in Painting, Drawing, 2D Design, Video Production, Digital Art, 3D Animation, Video Game Development, and various other courses exploring the conceptual intersections between digital and traditional applications and methodologies in the arts.
