What is the STAR Awards?
With 10 men's and 11 women's intercollegiate teams, Mesa College has one of the largest competitive community college athletic programs in the region. The annual STAR Awards recognizes the academic achievements, community spirit, and athletic excellence of Mesa College student athletes.
Awards are given in a variety of categories including highest individual and team GPA, individual and team community spirit award, team attendance award and Super STAR award. According to our previous athletic director Dave Evens, student-athletes at Mesa College have a 34% transfer rate to 4-year institutions. "We are very competitive in all intercollegiate sports as members of the Pacific Coast, Orange Empire, and Foothill Conferences," notes Evans.
The award program is presented by the Mesa Academic and Athletics Program (MAAP) at San Diego Mesa College, which assists student-athletes in achieving their educational, career and personal goals.
