Ms. Althaus earned a B.A. in Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling from San Diego State University.
Ms. Althaus has extensive, successful experience in her profession. She has been an adjunct counselor in Mesa College's DSPS program since 1994 and has worked with all aspects of the position, including assessment, counseling, and accommodations. Ms. Althaus is the department's Coordinator of Student Services, whose special accomplishments in this role include restructuring and presenting the bi-weekly DSPS student orientations.
She co-developed the mini-lecture series 'Tools for Success.
For three years prior to joining Mesa College's DSPS program, Ms. Althaus was an instructor in San Diego State University's Department of Administration, Rehabilitation and Post-Secondary Education (ARPE) where she taught both undergraduate and graduate classes. She was Program Director of a federally funded Department of Education grant, which she also had co-authored. In addition, she has worked as a counselor at both Scripps Memorial and Sharp Cabrillo hospitals. Her professional experience has afforded her a depth of knowledge of diversity issues and of special student populations.
