What: Groundbreaking ceremony celebrating San Diego Mesa College’s new Social and Behavioral Sciences building, the latest facility funded by the San Diego Community College District’s $1.555 billion Propositions S and N construction bond program.

Study in the fields of social and behavioral sciences is poised to reach new levels of distinction with the groundbreaking of the new $40.5 million facility. The new three-story facility will feature 66,000 square feet of “smart” classrooms; Psychology, Anthropology and Geography laboratories; and Communications Studies studios.


The building design includes a series of courtyards that open toward and complement the future Mesa College Quad. Other site design features include on-site storm water management and the use of drought tolerant native landscaping.  A multi-use patio will crown the third floor of the structure.


The project is on track to obtain a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
