The Interior Design faculty at Mesa College is comprised of award winning professional interior designers and architects.

Mimi Moore - Professor

Professor Mimi Moore has passed the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam and is a Certified Interior Designer in the State of California. She has a B.A. in Applied Arts & Sciences with an emphasis in Interior Design and an M.A. in Education from San Diego State University. Professor Moore is a Professional Member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC). She has been teaching Interior Design at San Diego Mesa College since 1985 and is the Coordinator of the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) Accredited Interior Design Program. Professor Moore has received the ASID Chapter Medalist Award for outstanding service and contributions to chapter activities and to the profession. She also received the ASID Ethel M. Siegelman Memorial Award for Outstanding Service and the ASID Faculty Advisor of the Year Award in recognition of her commitment to students. Her private practice has focused on residential design.

Holly Hodnick - Professor

Professor Hodnick is a Certified Interior Designer (CID) in California. She holds a B.A. in Art from San Jose State University and a B.S. degree in Interior Design from San Jose State University. Professor Hodnick has been a past Program Director of Interior Design at West Valley College and later at Design Institute of San Diego. She has been teaching full-time at Mesa since 2000. Prior to teaching, she was the Director of Interior Design at an Architecture and Design firm and the sole proprietor of a design firm in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her design projects have been published nationally and she currently works on selected interior projects. Professor Hodnick has served for over many years as a CIDA accreditation site visitor, has passed the NCIDQ exam and the California Codes and Regulatory exam (CCRE) (now expanded to become the IDEX exam), and served for six years as a board member of CCIDC.

Ian Kay - Professor
Professor Ian Kay has been at San Diego Mesa College since 1987, first as an adjunct and now full-time, teaching in both the Architecture and Interior Design Programs.  He has a Bachelors and Masters of Architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley.  Professor Kay is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).  He has his own architectural practice specializing in residential and commercial projects and interiors.

Linda Medina, IIDA, CID - Adjunct Professor
Adjunct Professor Linda Medina is a Certified Interior Designer in the State of California. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from San Diego State University with an Emphasis in Interior Design.
Adjunct Professor Medina is a Charter Professional Member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and is Past- City Center Director for IIDA San Diego. She has served on the board of CLCID (California Legislative Coalition for Interior Design).
Medina is currently Owner/President of her interior design company (LMID) in San Diego for twenty years. LMID is a full service, award winning interior design firm with residential and commercial clients throughout Southern California. Her work has been published numerous times, including San Diego Home and Garden, The San Diego Union Tribune and Big Ideas for Small Spaces; by Christine Brun Abdelnour. She was awarded "Bathroom of the Year" by San Diego Home and Garden magazine.
Adjunct Professor Medina has taught college level interior design classes since 1995.

Helene Lindquist - Adjunct Professor
Helene Lindquist, Adjunct Professor, has a B.A. from San Diego State University with an emphasis in Studio Arts. She also has a Certificate of Achievement in Interior Design from San Diego Mesa College and is a Professional Member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association. In her professional practice, she utilizes a diverse background in kitchen and bath design, yacht interiors, and showroom management. She has passed the Certified Kitchen Design (CKD) and Certified Bath Design (CBD) exams.

Dan Stoddard - Adjunct Professor
Dan Stoddard, Adjunct Professor, has designed, specified and provided beautiful, custom interiors for a variety of clients for 35 years.  His body of work includes design for private residences, executive offices, government offices, medical centers and clinics, yacht interiors, retail stores, art galleries, historic interiors and preservation and religious interiors. Mr. Stoddard currently specializes in kitchen and bath design and transformation. His credentials include:

Karen Lowe - Adjunct Professor
Karen Lowe, Adjunct Professor, is a Certified Interior Designer in the State of California. She has passed the NCIDQ exam and is a Professional Member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). She has a B.S. degree in Home Economics with an emphasis in Interior Design from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo. Karen has been teaching Interior Design courses part-time since 1997. Her professional experience of over 20 years has emphasized commercial design and educational facilities.

 

Additionally, our students take computer aided drafting classes from Professor Rob Fender in the Architecture Program.
