Purpose
The San Diego Mesa College Research Committee works to build and implement a culture of evidence in which data-derived information and knowledge are used to improve student learning and engagement, instruction, delivery of services, and institutional effectiveness. The Research Committee is committed to:
- creating, promoting, and encouraging the use of a repository of research literature and institutional research;
- building awareness of good practices through Research Brief publications, professional development opportunities, the Research Committee and Institutional Research web pages, and presentations to the campus community;
- serving as a dynamic resource for instructional programs and service areas; and
- recommending practice and policy, further research and evaluation, and professional development opportunities.

Purpose
The Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment Subcommittee is a college participatory governance committee that reports to the Research Committee. Its purpose is to guide the development of Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment college-wide at San Diego Mesa College is accordance with accreditation standards. The committee:
- Provides advice and guidance on the development and implementation of student learning outcomes and assessment
- Reviews and advises on recommendations from the Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment Coordinator
- Assists in communication about SLOs and assessment to departments, schools, and other participatory governance groups represented by members
- Assesses the progress made by the college in SLOs and recommends changes, as well as necessary actions to maintain progress
- Reviews information about Mesa’s progress on SLOs and assessment
- Presents annual updates on Mesa's work on SLOs and asssessment
- Encourages responsible involvement by students in their educational progress
