2018/2019 FAFSA final deadline date: June 30, 2019

The Department of Education has opened the filing window for the 2018/2019 FAFSA as of October 1, 2017, to give students and families a chance to apply as early as possible.

Check back for additional 2018/2019 academic year Financial Aid deadlines.

Please check with the office for any deadline changes.

  • Fall Semester: 09/05/18
  • Spring Semester: 02/13/19
  • SUMMER 2019:  6/27/2019

2018/2019 APPEAL FORMS

Appeals are time-sensitive. They must be received by the Financial Aid office at San Diego Mesa College by noon on the student's last day of classes or by noon on the following dates, whichever comes first:

  • Fall 2018 Submission Window: 7/09/2018 thru 11/16/2018 
  • Spring 2019 Submission Window: 11/26/2018 thru 5/03/2019
  • Summer 2019 Submission Window: 6/03/2019 - 7/12/2019

Completed appeal forms (including all documentation) are due no later than noon on the end date posted above or your last day of classes for the semester - whichever comes first. Incomplete appeal forms will not be considered. Please note: If you are appealing only for Loan Eligibility, please see the Loan Deadlines below.

2018/2019 DEPENDENCY PETITIONS

Must be received by the Financial Aid office at San Diego Mesa College by noon on the student's last day of classes OR by noon on the following dates, whichever comes first:

  • Fall 2018: 11/16/2018
  • Spring 2019: 5/03/2019
  • Summer 2019: 06/21/2019

NOTE: Must complete 2018/2019 FAFSA on the web no later than 6/30/2019 if student is still enrolled at that time. Otherwise the deadline for each session ending prior to June 30th will be a minimum of two weeks prior to your last class of the session, not the end of summer session!


2018/2019 INCOME REDUCTION REQUEST

Must be received by the Financial Aid office at San Diego Mesa College by Noon on the student’s last day of classes OR by Noon on the following dates, whichever comes first.

  • Fall 2018: 11/16/2018
    As the 2018/2019 FAFSA is still working with 2016 income criteria, If you are planning to submit an Income Reduction Request prior to or during the Fall 2018 semester, both 2016 & 2017 Income Tax Return Transcripts from the IRS with all W2s/1099s will be required.
  • Spring 2019: 5/03/2019
    As the 2018/2019 FAFSA is still working with 2016 income criteria, If you are planning to submit and Income Reduction Request prior to or during the Spring 2019 semester, 2016, 2017 & 2018 Income Tax Return Transcripts from the IRS with all W2s/1099s will be required.
  • Summer 2019: 6/21/2019
    Due to the mini sessions within summer, the deadline for each session will be two weeks prior to the end of each, not the end of the complete summer session! The Financial Aid office must receive your complete Income Reduction request with ALL required supporting documents by Noon on the Friday 2 two weeks prior to your last day of the last summer session in which you are in attendance or 6/21/2019 whichever comes first [This is also true for students in late start classes throughout the Fall and Spring Terms]. As the 2018/2019 FAFSA is still working with 2016 income criteria, If you are planning to submit an Income Reduction Request prior to or during the Summer 2019 sessions, 2016, 2017 & 2018 Income Tax Return Transcripts from the IRS with all W2s/1099s will be required.

2018/2019 FEDERAL DIRECT LOANS (DIRECT SUBSIDIZED, UNSUBSIDIZED, & PLUS)

Must be received by the Financial Aid office at San Diego Mesa College by Noon on the student’s last day of classes or by noon on the following dates, whichever comes first.

  • Fall 2018: 11/30/2018
  • Spring 2019: 5/03/2019
  • Summer 2019: 7/12/2019

ALTERNATIVE LOANS

Same as Federal Direct Loan dates listed above. NOTE: Please be aware that your loan provider may publish dates or enrollment requirements that differ from the campus dates posted. The Mesa College Financial Aid office will always comply strictly with the dates and terms listed here only.


WORK STUDY PROGRAM

Must have a submitted 2018/2019 FAFSA filed on or before April 15, 2018 in order to be eligible for Priority Consideration for the Work Study Program. Participants of the Federal Work Study Program, once processed and placed, can present time sheets for payment up to the last day of the semester. Students should not work past the award eligibility.

  • Fall Semester Only– Students can work until 12/17/18or their last day of attendance unless the student is continuing on in Spring.
  • Spring Semester Only– Students can work until 05/25/19 or their last day of attendance unless the student is continuing on in Summer and/or the subsequent Fall.
  • Summer– A Student can work in June only if the student is enrolled for classes during summer session or planning to be enrolled for the subsequent Fall.

Summer (JUNE only) work is approved on a case-by-case basis and if the Department has made specific requests to have student workers during the summer.  There is generally no Work Study in July.

  • Spring 2020: 5/15/2020
    As the 2019/2020 FAFSA is still working with 2017 income criteria, If you are planning to submit and Income Reduction Request prior to or during the Spring 2020 semester, 2017, 2018 & 2019 Income Tax Return Transcripts from the IRS with all W2s/1099s will be required.
  • Summer 2019: 7/022020
