Description:
Biology Seminar: "Bicarbonate and Mucus- A Failed Relationship in Cystic Fibrosis" Dr. Paul Quinton, Professor of Pediatrics, UCSD School of Medicine, Professor of Biomedical Sciences, UC Riverside. DATE: Thursday, February 23rd 4:00 PM. ROOM: G101 Mesa College. Dr. Quinton’s Laboratory is focused to better understand the roles of fluid, electrolyte, and mucus movements of epithelia in cystic fibrosis and other obstructive lung diseases. His research applies molecular, physiological and biochemical approaches to investigate the mechanisms of normal and pathophysiological functions in affected tissues. Studies include sweat gland, airway, reproductive, and gastrointestinal organs. Specific interests include the control and role of CFTR (a mutant form is expressed in cystic fibrosis), in ion secretion and absorption processes, and the interaction of electrolytes with mucins.
