Ms. Nereida Dougherty is the Counselor/Recruiter for the Teacher and Reading Development Partnership grant. Ms. Dougherty earned an A.A. degree in Marketing from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM). Subsequently, she earned a B.A. degree in Public Administration from San Diego State University (SDSU) and an M.A. in Counseling from the University of San Diego (USD).
This broad educational background has given her skills and experience that will be valuable assets to the TRDP program. Since 2000, she has been employed as Associate Professor/Counselor at the District's Educational Cultural Complex. Prior to this, she was employed as Graduate Admissions Counselor and Financial Aid Counselor at USD; Financial Aid Counselor at Palomar Community; and Student Services Assistant at Southwestern Community College.
Her experience has covered all aspects of student services, and she has worked extensively with underrepresented populations. She has in-depth knowledge of community colleges and their interaction with both the K-12 school system and four-year colleges and universities. Ms. Dougherty is also active in a number of community programs: She has been team leader of the Cystic Fibrosis charity walk and fundraiser, and she has participated in the AIDS Walk, the César Chávez Memorial Parade, the Higher Education Cooperative, Future Leaders of America, and Adelante Mujer. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for her chosen profession will make her a welcome addition to the TRDP program.
