Description: This course consists of laboratory work in sight singing, melodic dictation, harmonic identification and rhythmic dictation designed to provide students with a "hearing eye" that can perceive and identify patterns both large and small in music. The emphasis is on the development of basic skills in sight singing short scale wise melodies containing seconds, thirds, fourths, fifths and octaves, melodic dictation containing seconds, thirds, fourths, fifths and octaves, harmonic identification/dictation of primary triads in major keys, rhythmic dictation with duple and triple subdivisions of the beat. This course is designed for the student pursuing music as a major or for the student interested in enhancing technical knowledge and skills.
