Description: This course is a practical exploration of the processes and elements used in the art of dance making in the area of Jazz. Within a workshop format, students work under close faculty supervision to research Jazz, including its African roots, its place in American musical theatre, and the influence of Funk, Hip-Hop and Latin rhythms, in order to create an original piece. Emphasis is placed on concept creation, use of story and movement, improvisation, dance patterns, revision and refinement to develop an original dance in a fixed, repeatable form. This course is designed for dance majors and all students interested in dance and choreography. This course may be repeated three times with new choreography.
