Women Athletes of the Week 2012

Jan 30, 2012- Laura Nelson PCAC Women's Athlete of the Week. "Nelson, a freshman left-handed pitcher from Mount Miguel High School, notched victories over Santiago Canyon (9-2), Chaffey (12-1) and San Diego City Colllege (6-3) in the Glendale Tournament at Glendale Community College."

Feb. 7 2012- Carly Mitchell received Honorable Mention. "Mitchell, a freshman shortstop from Patrick Henry High School, delivered a walf-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Olympians a 7-6 victory on the road over El Camino College and a double-header sweep of the Warriors. Mesa was down 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh before coming back to win. For the week, Mitchelll went 5 for 11 with four runs scored, three walks, three hit-by-pitches and two RBI's. A 3.0 student, she also had an outstanding week at shortstop as the Olympians won three of the four games."

Feb 28, 2012- Darlene Truong PCAC Women's Athlete of the Week. "Truong, a freshman catcher from Orange Glen High, went 5 for 6 in the Olympians' first two conference games as they downed Southwestern 6-0 and San Diego City College 6-3. She went 3 for 3 vs. Jaguars with a double and an RBI. She went 2 for 3 with a triple and walk vs. City. Truong played a key role in a 4-0 week for the Olympians as they ran their record to 14-3. She went 3 for 5 with three walks, two RBI's in a 20-1, 9-0 double-header sweep over Los Angeles Pierce."

March 14, 2012- Alexandra Mootry received Honorable Mention. "Mootry, a freshman first baseman from Patrick Henry High School, went 4 for 7 for a week. She had a double, a triple, four RBI's and two runs scored."

March 20, 2012- Carly Mitchell PCAC Women's Athlete of the Week. "Mitchell, a freshman shortstop from Patrick Henry High School, helped lead Mesa to back to back victories over San Diego City College 4-0 and Palomar College 6-2 as the Olympians stretched their lead in the PCAC race to two games. Mitchell went 2 for 3 vs. the Knights and 2 for 4 against the Comets, raising her conference batting average to .458. She made one of the season's best defensive plays to rob a Palomar batter of a hit, diving for a ball up the middle, then throwing out the runner from her knees."

March 25, 2012- Becca Dawson received Honorable Mention. "Dawson, a sophomore center fielder from Horizon High School who is the Olympians' lead-off hitter, went 3 for 5 for the week with a triple, three walks, and two steals. She leads Mesa with 20 steals. She has a 3.5 grade point average, will graduate this spring and will transfer to Azusa Pacific University."

April 4, 2012- Brittany Kamfonik PCAC Women's Athlete of the Week. "Kamfonik, a freshman third baseman from Point Loma High School, is a major reason the Olympians lead the PCAC in softball by one game over Palomar. She went 8 for 12 as Mesa won three more conference games. Kamfonik went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBI's in a 6-3 victory over Grossmont. She went 5 for 8 with 5 RBI's in a 14-3, 15-0 double-header sweep of Imperial Valley.
