Prerequisite Course Medical Assisting

Students applying and entering the Medical Assisting program are encouraged to take ALLH 048 Basic Skills for Healthcare Careers prior to starting the program.

Completion of the following perquisite (or equivalent) courses with a minimum grade of “C” or higher is required. Students who are enrolled in a prerequisite course at the time they submit their application must show proof of current enrollment when submitting their application. Admission into the Medical Assisting Program will be pending until students complete the courses with a grade of “C” or better. When taking prerequisite courses at another institution, please verify with counseling, before enrollment, that they transfer to San Diego Mesa College.

  1. Human Anatomy and Physiology
    a) MEDA 055 Human Anatomy and Physiology (3 units) or equivalent course within five (5) years of application date. A letter grade must be awarded with a grade “C” or higher.
    or
    b) BIOL 160 Elements of Human Anatomy & Physiology (4 units) or equivalent course at least 4 semester units, including a lab, within five (5) years of application date. If another college divides this into two courses, both courses must be taken. A letter grade must be awarded with a grade “C” or higher.

  2. MEDA 110 Medical Terminology (3 units) or equivalent course within five (5) years of application date. A letter grade must be awarded with a grade “C” or higher.
